Lets Frock This Town!
As you may or may not be aware, October is Frocktober, a chance for women (and I suppose men if you're so inclined - I'm sure you'd raise LOTS of money) to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).
It's a pretty simple idea really, sign up and gain support and sponsorship to wear a frock for everyday in October. That's right. Every. Single. Day.
Sadly, I missed my chance to sign up with a rather stylish team of women who will be taking part. However, I still have a chance to donate as I enjoy browsing through their wardrobes each day this month. You can do your bit too. Visit the Everyday Hero page of the Atomic Martini Frocksters featuring the lovely Lisa, Chelsea, Emma and Judy and help them fight the good fight in stunning frocks to boot!
Day 1 - Lisa Day 2 - Emma Day 3 - Chelsea
These gals are avid vintage lovers and collectors so I can assure you that your eyes will be treated to some frocking fantastic delights throughout the month.
It may surprise you to learn that in Australia, one woman dies every 10 hours from ovarian cancer. That's a rather shocking statistic, but the key to changing this statistic and giving women with ovarian cancer a better long-term outlook is early detection.
The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) is Australia’s pre-eminent body supporting ovarian cancer research. Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death of all gynaecological cancers; an insidious disease that often strikes without warning. At present ovarian cancer is commonly diagnosed at advanced stage with only 20-30% of women surviving beyond five years, compared to more that 90% when the disease is detected and treated early.
A pap smear does not detect ovarian cancer.
The OCRF is dedicated to proper research into this currently not-well-understood disease. To help us achieve our research goals and to save women’s lives, the OCRF needs the financial support of the community.
Help change the statistics. It's as simple as a pretty frock and a small donation.
